Two Great Games, One Unusual Result

2004.06.25 @ 16:43:58 -0500 under  MTU, Sports

Well known (since last season) for nail-biting finishes, this game against Metallurgy was no different. We got off to a great start but defence left much to be desired. It was a neck to neck race till the very end, with plenty of electrifying hits, heart-breaking fielding from both teams and not to forget, some controversies. I guess the scores at the end of each innings : (Fiziks-Metallurgy) 3-3, 5-3, 9-8, 9-9, 12-17, 20-23 - should give a good picture of the proceedings. It all came down to the bottom of 7th innings, with scores tied at 23-23! With two outs and a runner at third base, metallurgy scooped one up to the outfield, where the rover (Brian Ott) made a great catch look very simple! The result, game tied at 23-23 and we (all) decided to leave it at that. It was during this game that Brian Ott’s home run left a dent on one of the cars parked just outside the park… If I could say, this is the best match I have ever played so far…

This game also started off well for Fiziks and at the end of second innings, we were leading 11-5 but again our defense let the score read 18-17 at the end of fifth innings. There were plenty of close-calls and some of them eventually lead to a very heated controversy and usage of foul language from an EE player - it was sad to see their senior players just watching the incident silently! But that’s all the EE managed to score - we led 24 - 17 at the end of sixth and 29 - 17 by the end of top of seventh, though EE had a player short and not the full-strength side, one couldn’t take anything away from the Fizicians at the end of the game. A sweet victory but still lot of work needs to be done…
