WebMail

2005.10.21 @ 04:24:16 -0500 under  Linux, Research, Science

This too had been on my menu for about nearly two months and finally got it done a couple days ago. Here’s what I wanted to do — my Yahoo! mail gets downloaded to /var/spool/mail/use-name and any system-mail (from root or other users) also gets appended to this. I can read this mail via Pine by logging into that machine. But how about accessing that mail via a web-based client ?? I did plenty of search, tried several things (courier-imap, etc) but finally dovecot (which was already installed) did the job. It can read the mail in /var/spool/mail and I can read/send mails using SquirrelMail. My webmail is here. One feature that impresses me is that SquirrelMail lets one to configure different From addresses (identities) while composing.

Some other things, on research side, I got done are a way to plot Difference Charge Densities in Gaussian and running GaussView, with the latter one requiring some modifications to one of the files that came with the installation media from Gaussian Inc. Some day (sometime within next few weeks), I will have a page describing all the steps I followed while installing various research-related packages, and some other commands that I think I remember but I don’t…. more like a Note2Self page
