Old Monkey In

One of the important things that we (in our research group) had in our plan was to get parallel version of CRYSTAL 2003 working on our beowulf cluster. Working with Dr. Orlando (one of the authors of this program), I managed to get both serial and parallel versions, and good news is that they both run fine, giving proper results. Another neat thing I did was to download the non-commercial Intel 9.0 compilers (C, C++, FORTRAN and Math Kernel Libraries) and compile serial version of VASP 4.6.28. However, I have been having some serious errors with the parallel version of the same program – it runs perfectly fine when I run it on a single processor, however, I get different kinds of errors when I run it on multiple processors. Anybody who is reading this knows a work-around for this problem, please help me.
It’s finals week at Tech and I know some of you would envy me for the following : since Fall 2002, this is the first semester (excluding summers) that I wouldn’t have to take any exams. The following Christmas holidays will also be the first break that I wouldn’t be studying seriously for some upcoming examination. Trust me, it’s a pretty good feeling. This does not, however, mean that I don’t have to do any work – I need to get quite a lot of things done and make up for t he time I lost during the horrible six weeks of coughing…
If you have been a frequent visitor my website, I am sure you are noticing the fresh new appearance. Well, you guessed it right – it’s not my original creation. Eversince I saw this website, it has been on my mind to ape it. I had tried once before but couldn’t completely mimic all the features – I got the pull-down menu working but sub-menubar got left out. Of late, I have had a feeling that menu bar in my previous version was a bit too long and boring. So, having made up mind to jazz it up, I wrote to the author the aforementioned website and he was very considerate and quick in his responses. Though the technique I used is quite different from his, the final effect is pretty much the same. Another new feature of this new version is that contents appear the same irrespective of the browser size, as long as it has 800×600 (or better) resolution. Internet Explorer still does not understand all the stylesheet elements and displays the contents in the shabbiest manner possible – well, that’s a completely different story altogether. It’s my personal belief (and of few others) that this version looks slightly more elegant and crisp. My monkey is in a new outfit – you be the judge…

I like the new design g. That guy does have a nice site. It is cool that you were able to snag the menu. It is unobtrusive and useful.
